who is this site for?
For those who love their gardens.

My sister shares a keen interest in gardening and lives thousands mile away in the other side of the world, lucky for her it is in the tropics. She writes a lot to me about her garden and since she has been to England she knows something about the English garden. When I went to see her recently I bought some plants for her garden, a lucky bamboo and some canna which are doing rather well in her backyard. She lives outside Kuala Lumpur and has a small garden which is filled up with ferns and bougainvillea.

If you have any enquiries about tropical plants or gardening my sister and I will be very happy to help.

This site is dedicated to her. G

what's in the name?
Plumeria Acutifolia (frangipani)
-
a native plant of the tropical America which has been cultivated in Asia for at least two centuries. The blossoms are perpetual throughout the year in the tropic and strongly scented especially in the evening. Faded flowers scatter the ground and rugged stick like framework support handsome large dense dark green foliage. Flowers are available in white, rosy pink, pink and yellow with yellow throat and five petals.
In Malaysia it is called 'Bunga Kemboja' and often planted in the Muslim cemeteries.
In India it is called 'Temple tree' and planted in Muslim cemeteries and Buddhist monastery gardens.
In Thailand, the local name , lamtom sounds like 'ra-tom', the Thai word for 'sorrow' and thus the tree was thought to bring unhappiness.

I hope that this site will be a place that my sister and I can keep in touch and share our love for all things green. I do a lot of gardening in England to remind me of things that I miss back home, my family and hopefully I will be with them soon and grow bigger ferns than hers.
Here are a few photos from her garden taken in September 2003 - click here
